Over a decade of groundwater monitoring at this former industrial facility had demonstrated declining concentrations of chlorinated solvent constituents. During discussions aimed at final resolution of the project, state regulators noted that the potential for vapor intrusion had not specifically been addressed. TriAD personnel began with Tier One and Two screening under then-existing, draft EPA guidance, and determined that additional evaluation was needed. The presence of a residence with a basement within the area of the groundwater plume created a potential for human exposure. TriAD developed a vapor intrusion investigation plan, later implemented by state personnel, which demonstrated no risk to either the home with a basement or nearby homes constructed with crawlspaces or slab-on-grade foundations.
