Results of Phase I investigations indicated possible soil and groundwater contamination at several sites operated by a metal fabricator. TriAD designed and implemented Phase II and II investigations and discovered volatile organic compound and petroleum contamination in both soil and groundwater. These investigations included traditional soil borings, direct-push soil borings, monitoring well installation and sampling, spring sampling, residential well sampling, test pits, and an electromagnetic survey. Oversight was provided by the Tennessee Division of Solid Waste Management. Petroleum contamination in one area required wetland delineation and remediation, with close cooperation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Tennessee Division of Water Pollution Control. Other remedial actions included excavation and off-site disposal of contaminated soil and drums of hazardous waste, and the construction of clay caps over solid-waste disposal areas. Groundwater remediation using natural attenuation was applied to one of the sites.
