Former IGI Adhesives

Although soil remediation at this former adhesive manufacturer removed the source of contamination, groundwater continues to be monitored for chlorinated solvent impact. Because of the solvent content, monitoring well purge water is a listed hazardous waste with a correspondingly high disposal cost. To eliminate purge water, TriAD petitioned the Tennessee Division of Solid Waste Management (TDSWM) to allow groundwater monitoring using passive diffusion bag (PDB) samplers. TDSWM agreed, pending a site-specific study demonstrating the method’s efficacy. After one sampling event using both traditional sampling and PDBs, the method was approved for use. By generating zero investigation-derived waste during groundwater sampling, the client has saved thousands of dollars over the past several years of monitoring.
